The Zoning Enforcement Officer enforces zoning by-laws and initiates inspections and enforcement actions as proscribed by State statute and Town by-law. He provides interpretation of zoning by-laws, and if warranted, initiates legal action to enforce the by-laws.

The Zoning Enforcement Officer informs owners, contractors, engineers, architects and other interested parties of failure to comply with zoning by-law, and discusses actions and revisions to plans and specifications required to meet the by-laws. If the Zoning Enforcement Officer determines that violations of zoning by-law violations are not being corrected, he will issues a stop work order.

The Zoning Enforcement Officer reviews and inspects site plans and applications, special permits and (on request of the Zoning Board of Appeals or Board of Selectmen), make on-site inspections to review work in progress following issuance of special permits. He also answers zoning questions from the public, receives and investigates complaints of alleged zoning violations (and takes appropriate action as required), and appears in court to enforce code provisions as necessary.
