Board of Selectmen:
About

The Board of Selectmen (BOS) serves as the executive board of Town government. The BOS is responsible for setting guidelines for the preparation of the annual budget and for presenting the budget to Town Meeting. The Selectmen set the date and warrant articles for the Town Meeting and any Special Town Meetings, and they compile and distribute the Town Report before Town Meeting.

The BOS is the licensing board for the Town, issuing licenses and permits for liquor sales, automobile dealers and various other commercial activities. The Board of Selectmen coordinates with other Town departments to carry out the day-to-day operations of the Town.

Members of the Board of Selectmen serve on various Town and Regional committees and boards as needed, and appoint citizens to various committees, departments, and commissions. The Board is comprised of three (3) members elected at large for three (3) year terms.

Selectmen Biographies


    John Henry, Chair
John has lived in Plympton for 26 plus years. His wife of 38 years, Sandi, is the long time volunteer Director of the Council on Aging. The have two daughters who were brought up in Plympton, who had the great opportunity to attend the Dennett Elementary School, graduated from Silver Lake High School and from college. The Henrys are long time supporters of the First Congregational Church of Plympton. Originally John is from Chester, Vermont, a town just like ours. He graduated from Bryant College in Rhode Island with BSBA and MST degrees. He is a non-practicing CPA. His employment history includes nearly 20 years at Ocean Spray Cranberries Inc. in various financial positions including Senior Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer. Previously he served on the Wage and Personnel Board and is currently the Chairman of the Anti-Casino Task Force. He is an active member of the Historical Society. His goal is to help Preserve Plympton.
       
    Barry DeCristofano, Clerk
Barry, an avid amateur astronomer, decided to move to the area in 1992, when he purchased a telescope in an adjacent town. He and his wife were soon drawn to town by Plympton's dark skies and promise of small, rural community life, rich with personality and the chance to become involved in local affairs. An engineer by profession, Barry enjoys his personal and community pursuits. These have included engaging in local group activities, exhibiting his astrophotography in the library, and serving on the Finance Committee. As a Selectman entering office in 2007, he hopes to re-invigorate citizen involvement in local governance, focus his attention on productive problem-solving, and facilitate communication across town boards and residents.
       
    Joe Freitas
Joe is married and has lived in Plympton for over 50 years. He grew up in Plymouth, graduated from Plymouth High School and UMASS. He first moved to Plympton because it was quiet, rural, friendly, and mainly farms. He wanted a place where he could raise chickens. At the time he moved here, there were just 787 townspeople, no full time police, and you got to know everyone. He was first elected a selectman in the late 1960s. Before that he served on the Finance Committee, Local and Regional School Committees. Joe has supported the development of the industrial park, was active in starting the agricultural commission, supported zoning bylaws to keep Plympton’s rural character, and has been anti override for general government.
