Town of Plympton:
FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions

Trying to find out hours for a department? New to town? Looking for other information that the Town Clerk might answer? Take a look at this list of general, frequently asked questions. Maybe yours is on the list. You also might find your questions answered in the FAQS pages for specific departments.

GETTING INVOLVED IN THE COMMUNITY

How do I get involved in town activities and events?
Plympton's government relies mostly on volunteer efforts from the citizens, and citizen involvement is always welcome. If you would like to get involved, you can start by contacting the Board of Selectmen, who can advise you of committee and board openings and other needs.

TRASH REMOVAL

I just moved into town. What do I do about trash removal? Is there Town trash pickup?...A Town Dump?
No, the Town does not collect trash. However, for the cost of a Plympton resident Transfer Station Sticker, you can bring your trash to the transfer station (the Town's alternative to a dump) or consult local phone directories for private pick-up agencies.

What IS a transfer station? What kind of trash is taken there, and what is rejected?

If a holiday falls on dump--that is, transfer station day, does it open the next day?
No. In addition, if school closes due to snow, the transfer station will also close.

LIBRARY

When is the library open?

What activities for adults or children does the library sponsor?

BUILDINGS & INSPECTIONS

I have a building project I'd like to pursue. How do I find out about inspections and permits?
Depending on the project, you will need to contact different inspectors and potentially other offices, as well. One good first step is to contact the building inspector, who can then advise you on the permitting process. Additions, repairs, and new construction (even of some outbuildings), for example, require building permits with signatures from other departments, and the building inspector can provide information on these requirements. However, if you know that your project is limited to wiring, gas or plumbing work, you might want to directly contact the electrical inspector or gas and plumbing inspector, respectively.

BOARDS & COMMITTEES

How can I contact the heads of boards and departments, such as the Board of Selectmen, Planning Board, Conservation Commission, or other boards? How do I find out the boards' hours and usual meeting schedules?
You can check this Web site's site map (index), and follow the links to the specific boards and departments that interest you

Comcast has a billing and sign-up office on Rte 36 in Pembroke and the Halifax Plympton Public Access Studio at the corner of Rtes 106 and 58 in Halifax (274 Plymouth Street). Michelle Derocheres is the Access Coordinator at the Studio and can be reached at 781-294-7910 or via Email.

What are the local newspapers?
The Halifax Reporter and the Enterprise offer Plympton coverage. In addition, this site has a local news section, with links to many Enterprise articles about Plympton. Beyond exclusively Plymptonian matters, the Boston Globe and the Patriot Ledger cover the South Shore, with the Globe offering some specialized attention to Plympton.

ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS

Are there any events coming up? How can I find out about them?
For ongoing events information throughout the year, see the Plympton events calendar. In addition, note the following annual, Town-wide, non-governmental events:
The Plympton Historical Society's Antique Show (traditionally in September)
The Garden Club Plant sale (traditionally in May)
The Strawberry Shortcake Race the same day
Folk Arts the Friday, Saturday and Sunday before Thanksgiving
